Inishmore (Inis
Mór) is the largest of the Aran Islands at nine miles long and
two miles wide. It has a population of about 900 people, but
this can grow to far over a thousand in the busy summer months.
It is easy to find solitude on this rocky island. Just ask an
islander, and they'd be happy to point out that, while everyone
else may be off seeing Dun Aengus, Dun Duchathair is completely
empty. Or that there are kilometers upon kilometers of cliffs
that only an islander would know how to access, or even of its
existence. Aranmore, then, is an island that is best experienced
through exploration and with a healthy dose of curiosity, and it
is only by leaving the beaten path that one may find some of the
most beautiful areas of the island. |

L'île d'Inishmore
(Inis Mór) est la plus grande des îles d'Aran avec 14,5 km de
longueur d'est en ouest et 4 km de largeur du nord au sud. 900
personnes vivent sur l'île en permanence et plus de 1000 en été.
Malgré tout, il est facile de se retrouver seul dans les grands
espaces sur cette île rocheuse, en particulier sur la partie
sud, désertique face à l'océan Atlantique. Les insulaires
révèlent volontiers que leur île recèle de nombreux lieux
inédits et bien moins fréquentés que les sites touristiques. A
la condition d'être un peu curieux, et d'aimer la marche en
terrain accidenté, l'île d'Inishmore est une source inépuisable
d'exploration. Hors des sentiers battus, de nombreux endroits
offrent un spectacle insolite. |
