Tur Mairtin is located
on a hillside at the eastern point of Inishmore. It is
sometimes referred to as a round tower but is in fact a
dry-stone tower standing direct on the bare rock. Its purpose is
obscure, possibly as a marker for boats at sea. From the tower,
the view of Gregory’s Sound and Inishmaan to the east is
magnificent. Further north, Culoogarrow grasslands are home to
many rabbits. To the south, the track along the cliff allow to
reach the tip of
Benaharnaun and nearby the two
Puffing holes. |
