St. Sourney's Hermitage - Teampall Asurnaí

Aran Islands - Oileáin Árann - Inishmore - Inis Mór - Co. Galway - Ireland

Teampall Asurnaí (St. Sourney's Hermitage) is located near the village of Eochaill in the area known as Mainstir off either the coast road or the upper road in the central part of the Inishmore Island. This small church is the only structure on Aran attributed to a female patron, St. Sourney, who is believed to have come from somewhere near Galway Bay to Aran. Little else is known about her. To the east of the church the rests of a small rectangular building probably indicate the burial place of the Saint and is known like "St. Sourney' s Bed".
