In1588 the Girona, a ship belonging to the Spanish Armada, is wrecked in the waters near Giant's Causeway. According to reports, Sorley Boy assisted the survivors, but sold much of what was salvaged to pay for improvements to the castle.

En 1588, la Girona, un navire de l'armada espagnole sombra près de la Chaussée des Géants. En échange de l'aide qu'il apporta aux survivants, Sorley Boy, le seigneur du château, récupéra de l'argent ainsi que les canons de l'épave avec lesquels il transforma le château en forteresse.
