The castle was given to the Northern Ireland Government by the Earl of Antrim in 1928 to be preserved as a National Monument.

Le comte d'Antrim confia en 1928 le Château de Dunluce au gouvernement nord irlandais afin que celui-ci en fasse un monument d'importance nationale et l'entretienne comme tel.
