Under the basalt-capped plateau is a thick layer of Chalk, beneath which is Lias clay. The soft nature of this clay has caused the rocks above to slip dramatically towards the point. The Chalk contains lumps of flint, easy to spot in the white rocks beside the sea. Some 9,000 years ago, the earliest inhabitants of this coast shaped these flints into tools and weapons.

Sous le plateau basaltique de la côte, on trouve une épaisse couche de craie. La nature friable de ce calcaire grossier a permis aux rochers de glisser vers la pointe de façon spectaculaire. La craie contient des morceaux de silex, faciles à repérer. Il y a 9000 ans, les premiers habitants de cette côte ont utilisé ces silex pour en faire des outils et des armes.
