The Arranmore island was the first offshore island in the Republic of Ireland to get electricity from the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1957, but was amongst the last places in the country to get universally reliable piped water (in the 1980s) and an automatic phone exchange (in the 1990s).

L'île d'Arranmore fut la première île de la République d'Irlande à obtenir l'électricité à 
partir du régime d'électrification rurale en 1957, mais elle fut en revanche parmi les dernières 
à obtenir une alimentation fiable en eau courante (dans les années 1980) et un réseau téléphonique automatique (dans les années 1990).
