Ireland - Co. Meath - Navan - Boyne River

The Boyne Navigation contribued considerably to the commercial wealth of the area. With the growth in population and tillage farming at the time, the Boyne Navigation was necessary to transport potatoes, four, cotton and flax. For the last years of its operation, the Boyne Navigation was owned by John Spicer & Co., who stopped using it in the early 1920s. When the management of the waterway ceased, plants and animals slowly reclaimed the canal, resulting in the rich biodiversity present in this habitat today.

La voie navigable de la Boyne a considérablement contribué à la richesse commerciale de la région. Avec la croissance de la population et de l'agriculture locale, la voie navigable a permis le transport de toutes les marchandises. Au cours des dernières années de son fonctionnement, la voie navigable de la Boyne appartenait à la société John Spicer & Co., qui cessa de l'utiliser au début des années 1920. A l'arrêt du trafic sur la voie navigable, les plantes et les animaux ont lentement réinvesti les lieux, contribuant ainsi à la riche biodiversité présente dans cet habitat d'aujourd'hui.
