Ireland - Co. Donegal - Glencolumbkille (Gleann Cholm Cille) - Glen Bay

Glencolumbkille lies in the heart of the irish speaking area of south Donegal. The name translates into English as the valley of Saint Columba. Saint Columba (Irish name Colm Cille) is one of Ireland's three patron saints (along with Saint Patrick and Saint Brigid). Colm Cille and his followers lived in the valley and the ruins of several of their churches can still be seen there. Following a dispute with the church about the right to copy religious manuscripts, Colm Cille went into exile on the isle of Iona on the west coast of Scotland.

Glencolumbkille (ou Glencolmcille - Gleann Cholm Cille en irlandais) est un village côtier situé sur la pointe sud-ouest du Comté de Donegal en Irlande. Le nom de ce village signifie "la Vallée de Saint Colomba". Saint Columba (Colm Cille en irlandais) est un des patrons de l'Irlande (avec Saint Patrick et Saint Brigid). Colm Cille et ses compagnons vécurent dans cette vallée. Les ruines de plusieurs églises peuvent encore y être vues. Suite à une dispute avec l'église au sujet du droit de copier des manuscrits religieux, Colm Cille parti en exil sur l'île de Iona, sur la côte ouest de l'Écosse.
