The island is part of the Donegal gaeltacht. It is also known in English as Aran island (not to be confused with the Aran islands off Galway bay). 

Comme dans la plupart des villages du Donegal, on parle le gaëlique sur l'île d'Arranmore. L'île est parfois appelée l'île d'Aran, à ne pas confondre alors avec les îles d'Aran, situées plus au sud dans la baie de Galway.
