The river Shannon is the longest river in Ireland. With her 259 km long track. Established in 1834, this light was built to guide ships plying trade on the Shannon. Sited on Tarbert Island beside the ESB generating station, it was converted to electric in 1966, and handed over to the Limerick Harbour Commissioners on January 1st, 1981
